Let us calculate the expected return of "not preparing"
A McKinsey offer is worth around $20,000 per year at the lowest-paying offices, and five times that amount at the highest-paying ones in the EU and North America. So let’s pick the middle number and assume a yearly salary of $60,000.
Each candidate has a 3% chance of getting in (1% at the most competitive settings, and around 5% at the most “laxed” programs and offices).
Once a candidate gets into McKinsey, they tend to stay there for 2 years on average.
$60,000 x 3% x 2 years = $3,600
Now, what about "prepped" applications?
During the years we've been selling this McKinsey Solve Simulation package, we surveyed hundreds of customers and non-customers to find out their pass rate.
What we found out was that our AVERAGE customer had DOUBLE the pass rate in the Solve round, compared to the average applicant. Around 60% vs 30%, to be exact And that boosted their OVERALL PASS RATE to around 6%.
